Live Translation for Drivers & Delivery — Gate Codes, Addresses & More
The old way
- ✗Call the dispatch office to relay a message to the recipient through a third party, adding five to ten minutes to a delivery that should take thirty seconds.
- ✗Text the recipient's number hoping they have it enabled and that they respond before the delivery window expires.
- ✗Leave the package at the main entrance with an attempted delivery notice and rebook, wasting the delivery attempt and disappointing the customer.
With Mingle
- ✓Open Mingle on your dash-mounted phone, select the language detected from the intercom response, and speak your question—the resident hears it in their language immediately.
- ✓The resident's response comes back to you in English, giving you the gate code, locker location, or specific instructions without any relay or third party.
- ✓The whole exchange takes the same time as a normal English delivery conversation—no delay, no callback, no redelivery attempt.
Getting started
- 1
Mount your phone where you can tap the screen safely
A dashboard or vent mount keeps Mingle accessible without requiring you to hold the phone. You can tap to start a session at a gate stop without getting out of the vehicle.
- 2
Enable auto-detect language
Turn on language auto-detection so you do not need to identify or manually select the resident's language. Mingle identifies it from the first few seconds of speech and configures the session automatically.
- 3
Speak toward the intercom, hold the phone near the speaker
Position your phone close to the intercom speaker so Mingle can pick up the resident's voice clearly. Speak into the intercom normally. The resident hears your translated voice through the intercom system.
Common concerns
"Is it safe to use a phone app while I am in the van?"
Mingle is designed to be used at a stop, not while moving. At a gate or intercom, you are stationary. The interaction takes the same time as pressing an intercom button and waiting—you are not operating the vehicle during the exchange.
"What if the resident speaks a language Mingle does not support?"
Mingle covers the major world languages that account for the vast majority of delivery interactions. If a language genuinely falls outside coverage, auto-detect will fail to configure a pair and you will need to fall back to a call to dispatch—the same situation you are in today, just for a smaller subset of cases.
FAQ
Can I use Mingle through an intercom or does it need direct face-to-face proximity?
Mingle works through any audio input. Holding the phone near an intercom speaker picks up the resident's voice well enough for translation in most cases. Standard intercom audio quality is sufficient for voice activity detection.
What if the delivery requires a signature and the recipient cannot understand the signature instructions?
Start a Mingle session when you reach the door and explain the signature requirement in real time. The recipient hears the instruction in their language and can confirm understanding before signing.
Does the resident need to install anything for this to work?
No. You are the only one using Mingle. The resident speaks through the intercom in their language; Mingle translates it for you. They do not need an app, an account, or even a smartphone.
Can I use Mingle with a Bluetooth earpiece in the van?
Yes. If your Bluetooth earpiece is paired to your phone, translated audio will route to it privately. This is useful if you are in a noisy loading area and want to hear the translation clearly without raising phone volume.
Does both people need the app installed?
No — one browser session on one phone covers both sides of the conversation. The other person simply speaks toward the mic and follows captions on the same screen.
Is Mingle free to try?
Yes — start a guest session instantly, no card required. Paid plans unlock longer sessions, saved history, and team features.
